I just did the review and did pretty well. I know this sounds crazy but is there any kind of voice recognition program that we could include so that we could check for pronunciation and accuracy?

I agree that this is very hard. The sounds are new to my ear and required many repeats. I'm still not confident that I'm pronouncing correctly. I wish the lesson were even smaller - perhaps teaching only one phrase if desired.

I agree with Lisa. I got it by the end but I sort of failed parts of the confidence test. I would sort of get the right answer but not entirely. Maybe the lesson is too large. Also at times when I closed my ideas it was easier to follow the lesson. Review lessons will be critical.

Nice and slow, clearly pronounced. Just right.

This is really hard, no question about it. I've never said a tonal word in my life, other than ni how. But I'm newly impressed with the learning strategy. I don't think I'd do these just for fun, but if I had to learn these phrases, I'd be hard pressed to think of another way to do it. A linear CD would not be nearly as good.

Just to update -- I missed exactly one item each of the two times I've taken the confidence test, at the end of the lesson and a few minutes later.

Much harder than any other lesson I've taken, at least in part because I had no prior familiarity with any of the words, and I had at least a tiny bit of familiarity with every prior lesson I've tried. I definitely haven't mastered the pronunciation yet and am not all that confident I know the words yet. That said, I think I know them better than if someone tried to teach me that material in ten minutes.

sheme was spelled rather than shenme in the item on "ni jiao shenme mingzi"

Last card has been removed from the deck ("Nice to meet you")

This is a great intro lesson and makes me look forward to the other Mandarin lessons. I think the last item is too hard. It introduces four new words all at once, without respective meaning, and is very difficult therefore to remember.
